Gentle Yoga

Experience mindful breathing, meditation techniques and devotional chanting as you practice simple asana. You learn the fundamentals of technique, flow, breath and relaxation in a safe and structured way. The foundation of the asanas help you to connect with your inner self, thus connecting to the Divinity within.

Join us for this slow-paced, less rigorous yoga practice, where the emphasis is on alignment and breath. This is a wonderful class for those who want to be gentler with their bodies, perhaps because they feel tired, experience physical pain or stiffness, coping with chronic pain or are healing from an injury or surgery.

We use gentle movement, breathing practices, and classical yoga poses—modified with the aid of props like, blankets, blocks and yoga straps—to provide more support to the body. This helps you to relieve the effects of stress, releasing tension, strengthening your immune system, and relaxing more deeply to support a calm mind and clear vision.

Mothers Village Gathering

Mother’s Village Gathering
For pregnant women, mothers, and their beloved elders

We gather in a circle of care to nurture, support, and uplift pregnant women and mothers. This special gathering offers a space to be heard, nourished, and held in community.

Together, we share a wholesome vegetarian meal, stories, a talking circle, meditation, and more—creating an atmosphere of warmth, connection, and deep listening.

Our “village” of supporters includes grandmothers, mothers, sisters, aspiring and professional midwives, doulas, nurses, doctors, yoga teachers, psychiatrists, pharmacists, body and energy workers, ministers, and other women who feel called to support birth and new life. We come in the spirit of selfless service, honoring and encouraging the instinctual wisdom of those bringing new life into the world.

Through this collective support, we offer:

  • Nourishment and inspiration for body, baby, and spirit

  • A deep sense of belonging and being held in community

  • Trust in one’s own intuition

  • Confidence in the body’s innate wisdom

  • Tools to recognize and follow inner knowing

  • Encouragement to walk one’s own path

  • Support in speaking one’s truth

  • A peaceful space for making personal decisions

All are welcome.

To join, please email Colette at colette@seattleholisticcenter.com to coordinate the shared meal.

If you would like to bring a beloved elder woman in your life, she is warmly invited. We ask that she also email Colette and contribute a potluck dish to share with the gathering.

Baby Gym: Supporting Healthy Infant Development

Human babies complete much of their early development outside the womb. The first three years of life are especially important for brain growth and the development of the nervous system. Skin-to-skin contact, carrying your baby, and tummy time on your body all nurture your infant’s physical, cognitive, and emotional development.

Be proactive in supporting your baby’s growth! In this fun-filled class, you and your baby will move together through playful exercises, songs, and lullabies. Parents will learn simple, age-appropriate activities that support healthy brain development while strengthening the bond between parent and child.

These gentle exercises help babies gain greater control and coordination of their bodies, building agility, flexibility, and strength. Many parents also notice their babies sleeping more soundly as a result of the increased movement and stimulation.

For babies ages two months to one year.

$30, parent/baby

Infant Massage: a full body sequence

Infant Massage: a full body sequence

For Parents and Babies (3 weeks to 1 year old)

Infant massage is one of the most rewarding and loving activities you can share with your baby. At Sri Janani Yoga, you learn a full-body massage sequence based on ancient, timeless Ayurveda massage techniques, accompanied by specific baby-movement exercises and playful songs that are fun for you and your baby. This wonderful combination helps to develop your infant’s brain and nervous system, improve visual acuity and stimulate the senses.

You also learn techniques that, with regular massage, can…
• help your child sleep better
• soothe and calm baby during teething
• enhance baby’s digestion and elimination, and relieve symptoms of colic
• prepare your child for rolling, turning and crawling

• help avoid torticollis (when an infant’s head turns mostly to one side) and plagiocephaly (flathead)
• foster more nurturing tummy time between you and your baby

Please bring an extra blanket, or soft towel or two, for your baby to keep warm and comfortable during the massage. Since we’ll be working with oil for the massage (complementary), an everyday blanket is best, rather than your treasured heirloom.

Rate includes parent and baby; spouse/partner welcome at no extra charge. A handout of techniques is emailed for your home practice.

Tuesday February 17th, 11:30am-12:30pm

We rock and roll, move to the beat of lively music with exercises designed to help your baby’s growing mind and body during this incredibly influential time of brain development. Your baby gains more control and coordination while increasing strength, agility and flexibility for a beautiful foundation to grow on—and is likely to sleep more soundly, too!

Gentle yoga poses are taught to help you to strengthen, energize, and tone your whole body while deepening your sense of well being. We focus on specific areas such as neck and shoulders, abdominals, lower back, and pelvis. Come to any of our postnatal classes when you feel ready.
